SERVICE SUMMARY:

We like the idea of unity, but what does it take to actually accomplish it? In today’s divided world we often decry the division but neglect the virtues required to live in community: kindness, humility, gentleness, compassion, patience, and bearing the burdens of others. How can God change us from the inside out so that we can be people of peace instead of hostility? Join us this Sunday as we continue our series on the unity of the Christian Church. SCRIPTURE:

Colossians 3:12-17

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Merciful God,
for the hate we have harbored,

forgive us;

for the acts of love we have neglected,

forgive us;

for all the times we have slandered our neighbor,

forgive us;

for all the times we have put ourselves first,

forgive us;

for all the times we have withdrawn compassion,

forgive us;

for all the times we have failed to forgive,

forgive us;

silent confession

For hurtful words said and helpful words unsaid,
for arrogant hearts
and impatient wills,

God of all mercy, forgive us.
Empower us to love you and our neighbor.

Amen.

SONG TO CONSIDER

Christ will come again

We have died together
We will rise together
We will live together
The body oh the body
We are the body of Christ

We are brothers and sisters
Through our savior’s blood

SERVICE SUMMARY:

What does it look like to grow up? Adulting has become a sort of buzz word today. People often use it to describe the responsibilities one faces when becoming an adulthood. But what is it like to adult as a Christian? Most often we view maturity as a form of independence. But what if growing up means not independence, but interdependence? What if responsibility actually looks like existing in, receiving from, and giving to a community? Come this week learn about a key distinctive of Christian maturity—unity. SCRIPTURE:

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds[a] and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,[c] to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Sovereign Lord, you rule the nations,

But we live as though we are the center of the universe.

Sovereign Lord, you ordain all things for your glory and our good,

But we seek to control our own lives and the lives of others.

Sovereign Lord, you have written all our days,

But we fret over the unknown.

Sovereign Lord, you rule with justice and mercy,

But we presume to be more just and merciful than you.

Silent Confession

Lord, forgive us for all the ways we think we can do your job better than you, and give us a humble confidence in your sovereign will. Amen.

SONG TO CONSIDER

Christ has died Christ is risen

We have died together
We will rise together

We are the body of Christ

We are brothers and sisters

SERVICE SUMMARY: Who gets the final word on defining a person? We often go through life looking for someone or some group to tell us who we are. Often, we attempt to define ourselves and others by our success, our hobbies, our politics, or our market value. We look for a tribe to give us meaning and significance. But God says that he is our maker. Since we belong to him, he gets the final word on everything about us. Join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series on the unity of the Christian Church. Click HERE to RSVP to service.

SCRIPTURE:

Philippians 1:27–2:2

7 Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, 28 and not frightened in anything by your opponents. This is a clear sign to them of their destruction, but of your salvation, and that from God. 29 For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, 30 engaged in the same conflict that you saw I had and now hear that I still have.

2 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Lord, we are like sheep, and we get lost.
We forget the needs of our neighbors
and do not love you above all else.
We need a Savior, so we long for Jesus.

Lord, hear us as we silently confess our need for mercy.

silent confession

Come, Lord Jesus. Rescue and heal us. Amen.

SONG TO CONSIDER

Let us be known by our love
In every word, in every deed honor the Son
Let our light shine in every eye
Let us be known by our love

For the glory of the Father
For the glory of the Son
For the glory of the Spirit
Let us be known by our love

Let us be known by our joy
In every home, in every heart sing to the Lord
Let our life show goodness and hope
Let us be known by our joy

For the glory of the Father
For the glory of the Son
For the glory of the Spirit
Let us be known by our joy

Let us be known by our peace
In every town, in every tribe Jesus is King
Let us go forth, heal and restore
Let us be known by our peace

For the glory of the Father
For the glory of the Son
For the glory of the Spirit

SERVICE SUMMARY: Social researchers tell us loneliness is on the rise and it has devastating impacts. Our families, neighborhoods, and work places are fractured—and that’s all before we entered a global pandemic that forced us to stay at home. Does the Christian church have a role to play in bringing disparate people together? Join us this Sunday as we study the uncommon family that is the Church of Christ. Click HERE to RSVP to service.

SCRIPTURE:

Ephesians 2:11-22

11 Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh, called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision, which is made in the flesh by hands— 12 remember that you were at that time separated from Christ, alienated from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. 18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.

SONG OF CONFESSION

In this series on the church, we will see in scripture numerous pictures of what the church is supposed to be. Yet we often fail to live up to that beautiful vision. Let’s confess our sins together and especially the ways we’ve failed to live as God’s people on earth.

1. Falling down upon our knees
Sharing now in common shame
We have sought security
Not the cross that bares Your name
Fences guard our hearts and homes
Comfort sings a siren tune
We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in You

2. Lord we fall upon our knees
We have shunned the weak and poor
Worshipped beauty courted kings
And the things their gold affords
Prayed for those we’d like to know
Favor sings a siren tune
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in You

3. You have caused the blind to see
We have blinded him again
With our man-made laws and creeds
Eager ready to condemn
Now we plead before Your throne
Power sings a siren tune
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in You

We’re a valley of dry bones
Lead us back to life in You
We’ve become a talent show
Lead us back to life in You
We’ve been throwing heavy stones
Lead us back to life in You

SERVICE SUMMARY: It’s no secret that our country is divided in many ways. Civil strife and discord are in the news almost daily. We might expect a nation as vast and diverse as the United States to hold many world views and perspectives in tension. What may be surprising, though, is that many people experience the Christian Church as no different. Critics point to the various divisions as reasons for disbelief. Yet, Jesus is not surprised. In fact, Christian unity is the very thing he prayed for on the night before he went to the cross. Join us this week as we begin a series on the Christian practice of the communion of the saints. Click HERE to RSVP to service.

SCRIPTURE:

John 17:20–24

20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Lord you have told us to love you and our neighbor.
Yet we have spurned your words, your will, and your ways.
We have envied and lusted after our neighbors–even fellow Christians.
We view them as enemies and treat them with contempt.
We quarrel and fight,
We gossip and slander,
We neglect and turn away when they are in need.

Hear us now as we silently confess the ways we have neglected to pursue unity and act in love.

silent confession

Forgive our sins and cultivate love and unity in your Church,
For the glory of Christ who prayed that we might be one in him.
Amen.

SONG TO CONSIDER

Verse 1
The church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord;
she is His new creation by water and the Word:
from heav’n he came and sought her to be his holy bride;
with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.

Verse 2
Elect from ev’ry nation, yet one o’er all the earth,
her charter of salvation one Lord, one faith, one birth;
one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
and to one hope she presses, with ev’ry grace endued.

Verse 3
Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore oppressed,
by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

Verse 4
The church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend,
to guide, sustain, and cherish, is with her to the end;
though there be those that hate her, and false sons in her pale,
against both foe and traitor she ever shall prevail.

Verse 5
‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war,
she waits the consummation of peace forevermore;
till with the vision glorious her longing eyes are blest,
and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.

Verse 6
Yet she on earth hath union with the God the Three in One,
and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won:
O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we,
like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.

SERVICE SUMMARY: Faith comes more easily in the good times when things are going our way; joy comes more naturally in the times of feasting. But what do we do in the times of famine and difficulty? How can we find joy when life is full of suffering and pain? Join us this week as we finish our sermon series on the Prophet Habakkuk. Click HERE to RSVP to service.

SCRIPTURE:

Habakkuk 3:16–19

I hear, and my body trembles;
my lips quiver at the sound;
rottenness enters into my bones;
my legs tremble beneath me.
Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble
to come upon people who invade us.

17 Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 God, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet like the deer’s;
he makes me tread on my high places.

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.

CONFESSION OF SIN

1. I know the Lord is nigh
And would but cannot pray
For Satan meets me when I try
And frights my soul away
And frights my soul away

Chorus
Help my unbelief
Help my unbelief
Help my unbelief
My help must come from Thee

2. I would but can’t repent
Though I endeavor oft
This stony heart can ne’er relent
Till Jesus makes it soft
Till Jesus makes it soft

3. I would not cannot love
Though wooed by love divine
No arguments have power to move
A soul as base as mine
A soul so base as mine

4. I would but cannot rest
In God’s most holy will
I know what He appoints is best
And murmur at it still
I murmur at it still

SONG TO CONSIDER

1. For God alone, I wait in silence;
My soul is still before the Lord.
He is my rock and my salvation,
My fortress strong; I trust in Him.

Chorus
I’ll not be shaken! I’ll not be shaken,
For all my hope is in His love.
From God alone comes my salvation;
I wait and trust His steadfast love!

2. Put not your hope in gain of riches;
Seek not your rest in empty wealth.
The rich are weak; the poor are mighty,
Who turn to God alone for help.

3. Pour out your heart to God our refuge
And trust in Him to hear you cry.
No other hope will never fail you;
No other love will not run dry.

SCRIPTURE:

Habakuk 3:1–6, 12–16

 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth.

2 O Lord, I have heard the report of you,

    and your work, O Lord, do I fear.

In the midst of the years revive it;

    in the midst of the years make it known;

    in wrath remember mercy.

3 God came from Teman,

    and the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah

His splendor covered the heavens,

    and the earth was full of his praise.

4 His brightness was like the light;

    rays flashed from his hand;

    and there he veiled his power.

5 Before him went pestilence,

    and plague followed at his heels.

6 He stood and measured the earth;

    he looked and shook the nations;

then the eternal mountains were scattered;

    the everlasting hills sank low.

    His were the everlasting ways.

12 You marched through the earth in fury;

    you threshed the nations in anger.

13 You went out for the salvation of your people,

    for the salvation of your anointed.

You crushed the head of the house of the wicked,

    laying him bare from thigh to neck. Selah

14 You pierced with his own arrows the heads of his warriors,

    who came like a whirlwind to scatter me,

    rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret.

15 You trampled the sea with your horses,

    the surging of mighty waters.

CONFESSION OF SIN

1. From depths of woe I raise to Thee
The voice of lamentation
Lord turn a gracious ear to me
And hear my supplication
If Thou iniquities dost mark
Our secret sins and misdeeds dark
O who shall stand before Thee

2. To wash away the crimson stain
Grace grace alone availeth
Our works alas are all in vain
In much the best life faileth
No man can glory in Thy sight
All must alike confess Thy might
And live alone by mercy

3. Therefore my trust is in the Lord
And not in mine own merit
On Him my soul shall rest
His word upholds my fainting spirit
His promised mercy is my fort
My comfort and my sweet support
I wait for it with patience

4. What though I wait the live-long night
And till the dawn appeareth
My heart still trusteth in His might
It doubteth not nor feareth
Do thus O ye of Israel’s seed
Ye of the Spirit born indeed
And wait till God appeareth

5. Though great our sins and sore our woes
His grace much more aboundeth
His helping love no limit knows
Our utmost need it soundeth
Our shepherd good and true is He
Who will at last our Israel free
From all their sin and sorrow

SONG TO CONSIDER

1. When we see the risen Savior with the bread that he has blessed,
He becomes the living Servant, heav’nly food for holy rest.
Stay with us, for day is fading, feast with us, O secret King,
Show to us how Scripture’s story speaks of you in everything.

PRE CHORUS
Do not our hearts burn now?
For you’re here in power.

2. Jesus, show yourself the Author and Perfecter of our faith,
In your living and your dying, consummation of God’s grace.
From creation to the exile, incarnation to the grave,
Resurrection to ascension; come, O Jesus, come to save.

CHORUS
Open our eyes, shine on our sight,
O risen Lord, reigning on high;
Give us your life, bread from the skies;
Lift up our hearts, open our eyes.

3. You’re the Word that spoke creation, you’re the end of Moses’ Law,
You’re the goal of Abram’s blessing, you’re the King whom David saw;
You’re the Day the prophets longed for, you’re the covenant of grace,
You’re the hero of the Scriptures, now we see you face to face.

4. Jesus, show yourself the Prophet, Jesus, show yourself the King,
Jesus, show yourself the Priest, all in all, and everything.

CALL TO WORSHIP:

from Psalm 96

Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth!

For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it;

 … for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth.

 He will judge the world in righteousness,

and the peoples in his faithfulness.

Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness;
tremble before him, all the earth!

You Alone are the Lord (Psalm 96)

1. We will sing a new song for you
Of your power, salvation, and truth
You are the victory
You can never be moved

2. On our knees we will worship you Lord
On our knees we will worship you Lord
Here with this offering
We come into your courts

CHORUS
Splendor and might, Beauty and light,
You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Lord
Glory and strength, Great is your name,
You alone are the Lord, You alone are the Lord
Trembling here at your feet,
The whole earth,the whole earth is singing!

3. Let our idols fall worthless aside
Those glittering, treacherous lies
We come to the richness
Of the Lord God on high

Let the fields and the forests cry out
Creation exulting
Let us sing it out loud!

CHORUS
Splendor and might, Beauty and light,

PRAYER OF INVOCATION:

HEARING GOD’S WORD:

Habbakuk 2:5-8, 12-14, 18-20

5 “Moreover, wine is a traitor,
an arrogant man who is never at rest.
His greed is as wide as Sheol;
like death he has never enough.
He gathers for himself all nations
and collects as his own all peoples.”

6 Shall not all these stake up their taunt against him, with scoffing and riddles for him, and say,
“Woe to him who heaps up what is not his own—
for how long?—
and wloads himself with pledges!”
7 Will not your debtors suddenly arise,
and those awake who will make you tremble?
Then you will be spoil for them.
8 Because you have plundered many nations,
all the remnant of the peoples shall plunder you,
for the blood of man and violence to the earth,
to cities and all who dwell in them.

12 “Woe to him who builds a town with blood
and founds a city on iniquity!
13 Behold, is it not from the LORD of hosts
that fpeoples labor merely for fire,
and nations weary themselves for nothing?
14 For the earth will be filled
with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.

18 “What profit is an idol
when its maker has shaped it,
a metal image, qa teacher of lies?
For its maker trusts in his own creation
when he makes speechless idols!
19 Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake;
to a silent stone, Arise!
Can this teach?
Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver,
and there is no breath at all in it.
20 But the LORD is in his holy temple;
wlet all the earth keep silence before him.”

This is the Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God!

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!

Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

PRAYER OF INVOCATION:

We Long to See You (Psalm 24)

Almighty God, we long to see you;
Open our hearts and make them pure.
Spirit, we wash our hands in mercy;
Come teach our souls to love your truth.

SONG OF PRAISE:

Rejoice in All Your Works (Psalm 104)

1. Every mouth that cries for food,
Every lung that yearns for breath,
Every eye that searches through the dark for light—
All creation looks to you
For its breath and for its food.
From the goodness of your hand we’re satisfied.

CHORUS
Oh rejoice in all your works,

King of Heaven, King of Earth!
Every creature you have made declares your praise.
We rejoice in all you’ve made,
God of all-sustaining grace!
With the mountain, sky, and sea,
we sing your praise!

2. Every tree that thirsts for rain,
Every bird that seeks its nest,
Every heart that waits in hope to be made glad—
All creation looks to you
For its breath and for its food.
From the goodness of your hand we’re satisfied

CHORUS
Oh rejoice in all your works,

King of Heaven, King of Earth!
Every creature you have made declares your praise.
We rejoice in all you’ve made,
God of all-sustaining grace!
With the mountain, sky, and sea,
we sing your praise!

3. May the ponderings of my heart,
And the song upon my lips,
With the chorus of creation join in praise:
To the God who made all things,
To the Spirit who sustains,
To the Son who over all creation reigns!

CHORUS
Oh rejoice in all your works,

King of Heaven, King of Earth!
Every creature you have made declares your praise.
We rejoice in all you’ve made,
God of all-sustaining grace!
With the mountain, sky, and sea,
we sing your praise!

Forgive us when we forget that you rule
the nations and our small lives.

Holy Spirit,

Forgive us for minimizing your power
and squandering your gifts.

Triune God,
We confess that our blindness to your glory has resulted in shallow confession, tepid conviction, and only mild repentance.

BAPTISM SONG:

Jesus Loves Me

For the Bible tells me so.

Little ones to Him belong,
They are weak but He is strong.

Yes Jesus loves me.
Yes Jesus loves me

Yes Jesus loves me.
Baptism tells me so

HEARING GOD’S WORD:

Habbakuk 2:2–4

2 And the Lord answered me:

“Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so he may run who reads it.
3 For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay.

4 “Behold, his soul is puffed up; it is not upright within him,
but the righteous shall live by his faith.

CELEBRATING THE LORD’S SUPPER

REFRAIN:

Mt. Zion

We have come to Mt. Zion.
The city of the living God.
The heavenly Jerusalem.
By His blood we have come.

By His blood we have come.

COMMUNION SONG:

Let us Love and Sing and Wonder

1. Let us love and sing and wonder,
Let us praise the Savior’s name.
He has hushed the law’s loud thunder,
He has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame,
He has washed us with His blood,
He has washed us with His blood,
He has washed us with His blood,
He has brought us near to God.

2. Let us love the Lord Who bought us,
Pitied us when enemies,
Called us by His grace and taught us,
Gave us ears and gave us eyes.
He has washed us with His blood,
He has washed us with His blood,
He has washed us with His blood,
He presents our souls to God.

3. Let us sing though fierce temptation
Threatens hard to bear us down,
For the Lord, our strong salvation,
Holds in view the conqueror’s crown.
He, Who washed us with His blood,
He, Who washed us with His blood,
He, Who washed us with His blood,
Soon will bring us home to God.

4. Let us wonder grace and justice
Join and point to mercy’s store
When through grace in Christ our trust is,
Justice smiles and asks no more.
He Who washed us with His blood,
He Who washed us with His blood,
He Who washed us with His blood,
Has secured our way to God.

5. Let us praise and join the chorus
Of the saints enthroned on high.
Here they trusted Him before us,
Now their praises fill the sky.
You have washed us with your blood,
You have washed us with your blood,
You have washed us with your blood,
You are worthy, Lamb of God.

COMMISSIONING:

God sends us out in his power

CLOSING SONG:

All Praise to thee My God this Night

1. All praise to Thee, my God, this night,
For all the blessings of the light!
Keep me, O keep me, King of kings,
Beneath Thine own almighty wings.

2. Forgive me, Lord, for Thy dear Son,
The ill that I this day have done,
That with the world, myself, and Thee,
I, ere I sleep, at peace may be.

3. O may my soul on Thee repose,
And with sweet sleep mine eyelids close,
Sleep that may me more vigorous make
To serve my God when I awake

4. Teach me to live, that I may dread
The grave as little as my bed.
Teach me to die, that so I may
Rise glorious at the judgment day.

5. Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

SONG OF PRAISE:

Hail to the Lord’s Anointed

Chorus
Hail to the Lord’s anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!

1. He comes to break oppression,
to set the captive free,

To take away transgression,
and rule in equity.

He comes with comfort speedy
to those who suffer wrong,

To help the poor and needy,
and bid the weak be strong.

Chorus
Hail to the Lord’s anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!

2. To give them songs for sighing,
their darkness turn to light,

Whose souls, condemned and dying,
were precious in His sight.

He shall come down like showers
upon the fruitful earth,

Love, joy, and hope, like flowers,
spring in His path to birth.

Chorus
Hail to the Lord’s anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!

3. Kings shall fall down before him
and gold and incense bring

all nations shall adore him,
his praise all people sing.

The tide of time shall never
His covenant remove.

His Name shall stand forever,
his Name to us is Love.

Chorus
Hail to the Lord’s anointed,
great David’s greater Son!
Hail in the time appointed,
His reign on earth begun!

Forgive our lack of faith;
Have mercy on our weakness.

COMMUNION SONG:

Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

1. Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven’s praises
Robed in frail humanity
In our longing in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

2. Come behold the wondrous mystery
He the perfect Son of Man
In His living in His suff’ring
Never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law in Him we stand

3. Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption
See the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured love untold

4. Come behold the wondrous mystery
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could ever restrain Him
Praise the Lord He is alive
What a foretaste of deliv’rance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when He comes
