God invites us to worship

based on Psalm 22:3-5

The Lord is holy,
enthroned on the praises of his people.

In him our fathers trusted;
they trusted, and he delivered them.

Cry out to the Lord, and he will rescue you.
Trust in him and you will not be put to shame.

We Long to See You

Almighty God, we long to see you;
Open our hearts and make them pure.
Spirit, we wash our hands in mercy;
Come teach our souls to love your truth.

Put Not Your Hope in the Nation (Psalm 146)

1. Put not your hope in the nation;
Put not your hope in a king.
Trust in the only one who opens eyes
And sets the pris’ner free.

2. He is the maker of heaven;
He formed the earth and the sea.
Our help will come from the Lord our God,
Our gracious king of peace.

Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord, O my soul!

3. He is the hope of the hungry;
He is the Lord of the feast.
Our Father’s house always opens wide
To welcome refugees.

4. The fatherless find a Father;
The widow rests in His strength.
The heart of God is forever home
To all the poor and weak.
(to Chorus)

Habakkuk 1:2–11

2 O Lord, how long shall I cry for help,
and you will not hear?
Or cry to you “Violence!”
and you will not save?
3 Why do you make me see iniquity,
and why do you idly look at wrong?
Destruction and violence are before me;
strife and contention arise.
4 So the law is paralyzed,
and justice never goes forth.
For the wicked surround the righteous;
so justice goes forth perverted.

The Lord’s Answer

5 “Look among the nations, and see;
wonder and be astounded.
For I am doing a work in your days
that you would not believe if told.
6 For behold, I am raising up the Chaldeans,
that bitter and hasty nation,
who march through the breadth of the earth,
to seize dwellings not their own.
7 They are dreaded and fearsome;
their justice and dignity go forth from themselves.
8 Their horses are swifter than leopards,
more fierce than the evening wolves;
their horsemen press proudly on.
Their horsemen come from afar;
they fly like an eagle swift to devour.
9 They all come for violence,
all their faces forward.
They gather captives like sand.
10 At kings they scoff,
and at rulers they laugh.
They laugh at every fortress,
for they pile up earth and take it.
11 Then they sweep by like the wind and go on,
guilty men, whose own might is their god!”

This is the Word of the Lord

Thanks be to God!

We admit our faults and God confirms his mercy

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

Hear us now as we silently name the specific ways that we have sinned against you.

silent confession

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

1 Peter 2:24

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

How long? Will You turn Your face away?
How long? Do You hear us when we pray?
On and on, still we walk this pilgrim way – How long?

How long ’til Your children find their rest?
How long ’til You draw them to Your breast?
We go on holding to Your promises – How long?

‘Til You wipe away the tears from ev’ry eye
‘Til we see our home descending from the sky
Do we wait in vain?
Jesus, give us hope again!

silent prayer

How long ’til Your word will still the storm?
How long ’til You bare Your mighty arm?
How we groan ’til You snatch us from the thorns – How long?

How long? Sweet the dawn that ends the race.
How long? Weak our hearts but strong our legs.
Looking on – great that cloud of witnesses! How long?

‘Til You wipe away the tears from ev’ry eye
‘Til we see our home descending from the sky
Do we wait in vain?
Jesus, give us hope again!

silent prayer

How long? Will You turn Your face away?
How long? Do You hear us when we pray?
On and on, still we walk this pilgrim way – How long?

It is Finished (Hark the Voice)

Hark! the voice of love and mercy
Sounds aloud from Calvary;
See, it rends the rocks asunder,
Shakes the earth, and veils the sky:

“It is finished!” “It is finished!”
Hear the dying Savior cry. (x2)

“It is finished!” Oh, what pleasure
Do these charming words afford!
Heavenly blessings without measure
Flow to us from Christ, the Lord:

“It is finished!” “It is finished!”
Saints, the dying words record. (x2)

Finished all the types and shadows
Of the ceremonial law!
Finished all that God had promised;
Death and hell no more shall awe:

“It is finished!” “It is finished!”
Saints, from here your comfort draw.(x2)

Tune your harps anew, you seraphs,
Join to sing the pleasing theme;
All on earth and all in heaven
Join to praise Immanuel’s name:

Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Glory to the bleeding Lamb!(x2)

1. The Lord’s my Shepherd I’ll not want
He makes me lie in pastures green
He leads me by the still still waters
His goodness restores my soul

MEN: And I will trust in You alone
             WOMEN: I will trust, I will trust in You
MEN: And I will trust in You alone
            WOMEN: I will trust, I will trust in You
MEN: For Your endless mercy follows me
              WOMEN: endless mercy follows me
ALL: Your goodness will lead me home

2. He guides my ways in righteousness
And He anoints my head with oil
And my cup it overflows with joy
I feast on His pure delights
(to chorus)

3. And though I walk the darkest path
I will not fear the evil one
For You are with me
And Your rod and staff
Are the comfort I need to know
(to chorus)
