SERVICE SUMMARY:“What’s love got to do with it?” Tina Turner rhetorically asks in her 1984 hit song. When it comes to a relationship with God, the New Testament writers insist: “quite a lot, actually.” In fact, when Jude speaks of preserving the Christian faith, his primary command is that we keep ourselves in the love of God. While we can’t cause God to love us (he does!), Jude knows that we can refuse God’s love and walk away from it. We can fail to live in its light. So what does it mean to keep ourselves in God’s love? Come this week as we consider the most underutilized privilege that the world has known—that we are absolutely and fundamentally loved.

SCRIPTURE: Jude 21, Romans 8:35-39

21 But you, Beloved…Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written,
“For your sake we are being killed all the day long;
we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

CONFESSION OF SIN

O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments,

we have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled.

We have not listened to your Word;

We have not obeyed your voice.

We have maligned your good name.
We have not lived like your people.

silent confession

Lord, we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness,
but because of your great mercy.

O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive.

Amen.

SONG OF REFLECTION

Verse:
Thank You for the cross that You have carried
Thank You for Your blood that was shed
You took the weight of sin upon Your shoulders
And Sacrificed Your life so I could live

Chorus:
Now nothing is holding me back from You
Redeemer of my soul
Now nothing can hold me back from You
Your Love will never let me go

Verse:
Thank You for Your death and resurrection
Thank You for the power of Your blood
I am overwhelmed by Your affection
The Kindness and the Greatness of Your Love

Bridge:
Jesus, You make all things new

Verse:
Thank You that we’re living in Your Kingdom
Jesus You’re the King upon the throne
Thank You for the way You always love me
Now I get to love You in return
