SERVICE SUMMARY:Bad news. The more we look around the world, the more there is reason to doubt that anything good will happen. Yet, the resurrection of Jesus tells us that hope is rooted not in what we see around us, but in the God who sees us, and who brings salvation through his miraculous power.

SCRIPTURE: Romans 4:18–25

18 In hope he [that is, Abraham] believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” 19 He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. 20 No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, 21 fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. 22 That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” 23 But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, 24 but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, 25 ywho was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

We all have various opportunities to bear witness to the resurrection with our lives. In fact, if you are a Christian that is your calling—to be a sign and witness to what Jesus has done. And one of the ways we bear witness to the resurrection is by bearing witness to our need for it. We confess that in ourselves, we are spiritually dead in sin. There is no life in us unless Jesus comes to give us life. And so let’s take a moment to bear witness to the resurrection by confessing our sins together.

You conquered sin and put death to flight
And gave us the hope of everlasting life (x2)

Glory, glory, we glory in your resurrection.
Glory, glory, we glory in your resurrection.
We glory in your resurrection.

Your victory shall redeem our days
Banish our fears, and make us bold to praise (x2)

We are waiting for the consummation
Of your kingdom on the last great day (x4)
